De Herberg (THE INN)

Church RenesseHistory
Hotel De Herberg is situated in the picturesque seaside town of Renesse. Renesse is originally a ‘ringdorp’ (a form of circular village) dating from the early 1200’s. The then-named guest house “De Herberg Anno 1785” is located directly on the village ring, directly opposite the Jacobskerk (Jacobs church), and was initially built as a rural farmhouse. The monumental building was quickly converted into a doctor’s practice and it retained this function until the flood of 1953. During the disaster the practice served as a shelter for about 11 families. The owner at the time saw this as a lucrative business opportunity and that is how the inn came into existence.

The hotel’s location and it’s monumental appearance make De Herberg a unique residence. De Herberg has six hotel rooms, five of which are double rooms and one family room. In 2009 the hotel was partly refurbished taking care to retain authentic elements including the wooden beams and granite floors. In 2019 three completely new four to six person apartments were completed.
