History
Hotel De Herberg is situated in the picturesque seaside town of Renesse. Renesse is originally a ‘ringdorp’ (a form of circular village) dating from the early 1200’s. The then-named guest house “De Herberg Anno 1785” is located directly on the village ring, directly opposite the Jacobskerk (Jacobs church), and was initially built as a rural farmhouse. The monumental building was quickly converted into a doctor’s practice and it retained this function until the flood of 1953. During the disaster the practice served as a shelter for about 11 families. The owner at the time saw this as a lucrative business opportunity and that is how the inn came into existence.
The hotel
The hotel’s location and it’s monumental appearance make De Herberg a unique residence. De Herberg has six hotel rooms, five of which are double rooms and one family room. In 2009 the hotel was partly refurbished taking care to retain authentic elements including the wooden beams and granite floors. In 2019 three completely new four to six person apartments were completed. These apartments are equipped with various luxury items, furnished according to the latest design trends and still retain an old-fashioned, cozy atmosphere. The whole hotel is completely non-smoking.
Breakfast
The stay in the hotel rooms is based on bed and breakfast included. Breakfast is optional for guests staying in the apartments. Lodge guests from De Herberg can sit at the table between 8.00 and 10.30 (in the weekend between 8.30 and 11.00) in the so-called “upstairs room”, which dates back to the Herenboerderij period. This is a cozy breakfast room with a view over the village.
The breakfast buffet is prepared in the fine living kitchen of the hostess and you can fill your plate to your liking with various oven-fresh, luxury sandwiches and an assortment of meats, cheeses and other savory or sweet spreads.
Or choose from various delicious breakfast cereals full of nuts, seeds and spices. Fresh eggs, fruit and various superfoods have also been considered. Do you have an allergy, intolerance or special wish? Let us know, we will be happy to help you!
Even without staying at the hotel you are welcome to come and have breakfast at De Herberg. The costs for this are € 14.50 per person or € 8.50 for the kids.
Reservations for the breakfast buffet are recommended and can be done by telephone, e-mail or step in.
Terrasse
Hotel De Herberg has a spacious, sunny terrace at the rear which is accessible to all guests. Here you can eat or drink something on your own, enjoy the tranquility, read a good book or meet other guests.
A cozy terrace is also located at the front, directly on the ring road of Renesse. This terrace is accessible to everyone and ideal for enjoying a delicious cup of coffee in the morning sun. Watch how Renesse wakes up from your easy chair in a homely, French atmosphere at De Herberg.
Parking
(Electric) bicycles and motorbikes can be stored behind the hotel. There are several charging points for e-bikes. The Transferium is 200 meters away from the hotel, where you can park your car for free in a lit car park during the summer months. From here there are free buses that take you around the entire island. In winter, you can park for free in the entire village.
Immediate surroundings
De Herberg is located in the centre of Renesse within walking distance of various shops, cafés and restaurants. A supermarket (100m) and the beach (800m) are also within easy reach of the hotel. Renesse is the perfect location for the whole family and there are many other idyllic villages within a radius of about 20 km. We highly recommend a visit to the ‘De Domeinen’ forest in Westerschouwen and a trip via the Delta Works to, for example, the Zeeland capital Middelburg.
Are you a horse lover? Manege Grol is located just a few streets away from us. Here you can arrange fully catered forest and/or beach rides, or it is possible to bring your own horse and store it here. More info: www.manegegrol.nl
